Why am I an atheist?

Read an essay “Why I am an atheist?” by Bhagat Singh. Nice article...Good thoughts and very well expressed..For a while I felt as if I read Candide by Voltaire..

But the entire argument in the essay (leaving the personal traits aside) is based on the fact that suffering is inhuman which shouldn't be entertained by God if he really existed. The arguments took its root from logical reasoning with humanity as the theme which essentially is the root of the communist theory (religion is the opium of the masses as Marx said). The definition of happiness here is the logical division of riches and rights.

Since, the essay is about why he was an atheist, I feel the essay to be perfectly right, valid and expressed.

But I feel the conception of God is far beyond in different religions. Suffering has various implications in various religions. In Hindu religion; suffering has to be tolerated for a greater good purpose. Though it might appear foolish it is the philosophy behind it. It only encouraged suffering for a greater good purpose. Film Dasavataram beautifully captures the underlying philosophy in it. In Christianity suffering is the essence of the religion. That is essentially the reason why poor and most deprived sections are attracted to it.
Jesus suffering is not just the Jewish or Roman folly but has got wider implications.

Inline with this is the philosophy of every religion. You can get nice views on God from Voltaire; the mind behind French revolution. (If there is no God, we will have to create him; he said). Don’t get confused. No doubt he was an atheist. He stressed the need for practical reason instead of pure reason and hence insisted the need for creation of God for humanity.

If there is no God, how would a 60 year old woman abandoned by her sons and daughters find solace? What would a dictator do if he is not afraid of the unknown power? What would be the significance of the stand of the witness in the court?

Some nice arguments of this type were brought out by Voltaire which were in no way one sided and would really make your mind exercise. I suggest you to read his works if you are seriously trying to make out your stand on God.
